Post Office closure 2 years on - please write in with your story
Posted by Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, at 15:35, Thu 17 June 2010:
Dear Neighbour,
Dear how time flies, but as you may recall, it’s been two years since almost half the of our local post offices in Hornsey and Wood Green were closed (on Alexandra Park Road, Salisbury Road, Weston Park, Ferme Park Road and Highgate High Street).
The council’s ‘watchdog committee’ (the Overview and Scrutiny Panel) will in July review how local people and businesses have been affected by the closures and raise concerns directly with the Royal Mail.
So, to get the chance to explain to the bosses in charge how the closures have affected local residents, I want to hear from you!
I’m not looking for essays or detailed analysis – but if you feel affected by the closures, this is your chance to tell your story. To help you along, you might want to consider some of the these questions:
Do you use the post office less now than two years ago? What are the queues like at your nearest post office? How far to you have to travel to get to your nearest post office? Do you have to take one or more buses to get there? How much longer does it take for you to get to your nearest post office today compared to two years ago? If you have a local business, or know of a local business that has been affected, I would also be great to hear how they have coped with the post office closure.
I will put all thoughts, stories and comments together and make sure that the post office bosses get a chance to read it all before the meeting, which will take place at the Civic Centre in the evening of the 5th July. And please come along on the day if you can, and do pass on this email to your friends and neighbours as well.
You can either email me on lynne@lynnefeatherston.org or send your story to: Lynne Featherstone MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
Kind regards
Lynne Featherstone
