Flooding in West Cumbria
Posted by Jamie Reed, MP for Copeland, at 14:18, Wed 25 November 2009:
As the Deputy Minister or North West England I've spent most of the last five days helping to coordinate support in dealing with the floods. With so much devastation in Workington and Cockermouth, resources have been prioritised here, but nowhere will be ignored.Communities like Cleator, Holmrook and Keswick need help too. The recovery will continue when the media bandwagon moves on, and the toughest times are now ahead of us. If you have been affected by the floods and don't feel you've yet received the help you need, please dont hesitate to contact my office on 01946 816723.

Sorry for not replying sooner. You can e-mail me directly at reedjr@parliament.uk or contact my office on the above number.
The army has a team of people in workington today assessing just how quickly they can assemble a temporary bridge - probably a single carriageway controlled by traffic lights - and there should be some progress very soon.
Those people and businesses affected by flooding but without insurance should contact the Cumbria Community Foundation on 01900 820822 for information on how to access the relief fund. Moving forward, government needs to reach a deal with insurance companies regarding the provision of insurance in areas affected by flooding - this wont be done quickly I'm afraid.
