Keep Fox's Biscuits in Batley

Posted by Mike Wood, MP for Batley and Spen, at 11:11, Tue 3 November 2009:

Just a short note about the continuing campaign to keep Fox's Biscuits based in Batley is still rolling along - not only to maintain the historic links the company has with our town but also to safeguard a significant number of local jobs.

Last week I attended the re-opening of the learning centre at the factory and used the visit to talk to staff about the uncertainty they face while Northern Foods, which owns Fox's, deliberates on plans for the future.

During the visit I took the opportunity to speak to a good number of shop floor workers. They are as one in feeling that their lives have now been on hold for two years. The company owes them an answer soon – one way or the other about their future plans for a new factory.

I am due to meet the managing director of Fox’s in the next few weeks and will be pressing him to meet the wishes of his own workforce, upon whose skills Fox’s worldwide reputation is built.

I have also held a series of meetings with senior Kirklees Council officers, including the council leader and chief executive, as part of the campaign to keep Fox's in Batley.

Best wishes,

Mike Wood
