Common Fisheries Policy

The Common Fisheries Policy (CFP) is currently under review and many debates are taking place as to the future of this policy.
There is no doubt that the CFP has been a disaster for our fishing community. The SNP have for many years, been demanding that Scotland should be able to control her own fishing interests. It really is madness that the Governments in London and Brussels hold such power of our fishing.
I am currently taking part in debates surrounding the CFP and I would be interested to hear the view of constituents on this issue.

It's ridiculous that governments in London and Brussels hold power over any of our policies. From returning faulty goods to shops to giving power previously used to seize the assets of criminals to councils, quangos and agencies. Scotland should control all of her own policies and laws. So by all means start with fishing interests, but please, don't stop there!

The CFP has certainly been a disaster for our fishing communities as is increasingly every policy and dictat coming from the EU! I am all for the UK having control over our own affairs, but in given so much of our national decision making powers to the civil servants in Brussels, we don't have much hope of this being the case again, and less so if Scotland became a tiny blip in the EU ocean. The UK has 8.4% of the vote in EU affairs which translates to 8.4% of the power to make our own decisions. If Scotland was no longer part of the UK then the % would be miniscule. I am dissapointed that we will not be having a referendum on Independance as this would have shown once and for all that the majority of us Scots do not want to leave the UK. Or will it be like the Irish referendum on the lisbon treaty? We'll keep having one until the seceders get the vote they want. Mr Macneil, despite the colour of your politics i think you are doing a good job for us and as the SNP continually refer to Norway as a model independant nation can't you seen that their relationship with the EU is the one that would be best for our nation, wheather in or seperate from the UK. While the Policies are being set by the EU we will never have control of our fishing interests.
