Dear All,
Thank you for subscribing to receive updates from me via the HearFromYourMP website.
I will soon update the newsletter ‘A day or two in the life…’ last produced in September last year. This is a brief thumbnail record of some of the activities, campaigns and debates I have been involved in during that Parliamentary year. If you would like to receive a copy of the next update please email me via my website at: www.andrewgeorge.org.uk and I will arrange for a copy to be emailed to you.
I serve on the Communities and Local Government Select Committee and on the Speaker’s Conference – another Select Committee set up to look into the relationship between Parliament and the people we serve - something which has been very much the focus of public and media attention in the last month.
In the next few weeks I will be leading from the Front Bench (for the Liberal Democrats) on the Government’s Marine and Coastal Access Bill which proposes the establishment of a new marine planning system and conservation zones for the seas around our coast and also for a joined up coastal pathway.
If you would like to find out more about my activities on behalf of my constituents please visit my website – www.andrewgeorge.org.uk - where you can read recent news, articles, my ‘sklogs’ – Parliamentary sketches presented as blogs – and to find links to other Parliamentary activities, Parliamentary Questions, etc. I am afraid that I do not have the time to recreate the same information in different formats for every site which monitors or reflects on aspects of Parliamentary life.
As ever, if you are a constituent and think there is a way in which I can help you or your organisation then please write to me at my constituency office at Trewella, 18 Mennaye Road, Penzance, Cornwall, TR18 4NG or email me via my website.
With best wishes.
Andrew George MP for the West Cornwall & Isles of Scilly constituency of St Ives

Dear Andrew, This, I think, is the first time I have received an E-mail from you and I am wondering why? Could it be the recent revelations regarding the very lax approach taken to parliamentarians' expenses or am I being too cynical? Not since the 1832 Second Reform Bill and the Chartist Movement (partly lead incidentally by a Penzance/Newlyn man - William Lovett) has there been such dissatisfaction with the political classes, which goes far beyond the relatively trivial matter of duck houses and dry rot. What the country is crying out for, is a parliament (of two Houses) able to hold the Executive to account and not be in it's pocket. For this there must be root and branch reform if the disenchanted and disenfranchised are to be re-engaged. But NOT please in the Blairite mode of partisan reworking and destruction before it is agreed what should be put in it's place. Clearly, there is so much more that could be said on the subject but I think I have said enough other than this: Liberals always claimed to have the radical agenda. Now is the time to make clear, in Chartist fashion, what that means.
Yours sincerely,
Tim Veater.
