Green Belt Protection
Posted by Bob Spink, MP for Castle Point, at 11:19, Sat 11 April 2009:
I continue to make the important issue of protecting our green belt a priority I do so for many different reasons, mostly to protect our overall quality of life.
But it is not the only issue locally. Can you let me know if you feel I can help on any other issues. I'm here for you so just let me know if I can ever be of help, however you vote.
I hope you saw that I was audited independently by the Sunday Telegraph last weekend to be, by a massive amount, the very best value for money MP in our region and an astounding 80% better value for money than the average Tory MP. Had I been the worst, you'd have seen it in the ECHO, so why did they not publish this good news?

Hi Bob,
I'm concerned about the reasons given for placing average speed cameras on Canvey Way. Going from memory, very few - if any, of the accidents that have happened on that road have been due to vehicles speeding above the speed limit. They have nearly all been due to poor Manoeuvres or careless driving.
I am also concerned about this new road Castle Point are putting on Canvey Island. What is the real reason for this road? It cannot possibly be to ease congestion, as it converges on to the same roundabout as the other two routes. Wouldn't the money be better spent on a second "true" exit from Canvey, over to Coryton?
Kind regards
Tony Stacey

Dear Tony,
Thank you for your email and I hope I find you very well.
Thanks for raising two very important issues. I am on the case and waiting for answers on how much the Ave speed system costs, whether it works and how to get better signage, etc. It smacks of expensive political tokenism and perhaps even taxing the motorist.
I have often said (several times each year over the last 17 years!!!) that there is no point in putting new roads at great expense on the Island. The problem is getting a new access road for the Island. But these county Councillors don’t seem to understand. They have argued against the new access road, shame on them.
The Prime Minister told me in the House that if Essex County Council make it a priority, the Government will back it and fund it.
Please let me know if I can ever be of any help on any specific issue for you personally.
Very best wishes.
Bob
