NHS Dentistry
Posted by Greg Mulholland, MP for Leeds North West, at 13:51, Mon 3 April 2006:
I would have to say the most pressing issue of the moment for me and many of my constituents is NHS dentistry. I have been contacted by a great number of people who are affected by the changes to the dental contract which came in on Saturday 1st April.
I have been campaigning against the contract since joining the All Party Parliamentary Panel for Dentistry and talking to the British Dental Association. I then surveyed all dentists in my constituency to find out their views on the contract and the future. All in all it makes for pretty depressing reading about the state of our dental care.
This is something I am continuing to fight against as I feel that the Government need to recognise the huge concern out there and the negative impact it will have.
I would therefore be very happy to hear comments on this matter in particular but also wlecome any other matters people wish to make me aware of.
Yours Sincerely Greg Mulholland MP, Member of Parliament for Leeds North West

I earn £100 a week (part-time minimum wage) so I can barely afford the checkup fee of £40! There are no NHS dentists near me and I was forced to go private recently when I was in pain. I'd been putting off the visit for a long time because I no longer had an NHS dentist. I ended up paying over £200 for a root canal treatment and getting in debt because of this. I can't believe the Government have ruined the NHS dentists. We should get a reduction in our National Insurance contributions if that money isn't being used on dentists, especially as we have to fork out so much to go private. Glad to hear you our fighting our cause. Emma Dawes
