TAKING UP LOCAL JOBS & BUSINESS CONCERNS
With people concerned about job losses and the plight of local business, I’ve been busy talking to residents about the new help available from the Government during the downturn.
I'm talking with local business leaders about the loan guarantees announced by the Government and I’m urging all the big organisations in Blackpool to employ local firms, local workers and take on local apprentices. Our Government is moving forward to help and we shouldn’t repeat the mistakes of the 80s and 90s when people were left to struggle on their own.
Have a look at ‘Real Help Now’ – a free Government guide for Blackpool residents to find help with money, jobs and finances. Real Help Now guide can be accessed on www.direct.gov.uk and local businesses version on www.businesslink.gov.uk or contact me on 01253 344 143.
DON’T MESS WITH THE MOSS FOR LUXURY HOMES
Residents will be pleased to know that I’ve written to the Tory-controlled Council raising concerns about plans they are considering for a huge 600+ housing development by Kensington’s on Moss House Road.
I share the worries already expressed by local residents that this could gobble up precious green space, pressure roads and services, threaten the local environment and wildlife and could be a drainage nightmare without providing affordable low-cost houses for Blackpool people. We should be looking at utilising existing brownfield sites, creating quality living spaces in the town centre and not high-cost homes on the Moss which could stand empty for years.
See details of my letter to the Council on www.gordonmarsden.co.uk and email your comments to the council on cllr.peter.evans@blackpool.gov.uk

I found your local MP newsletter very interesting, please could you provide an update on the plans for Kensington’s on Moss House Road and what locals can do to oppose it. I have already written to the Council, although I received a receipt, I have never received any formal response to my concerns. Thanks

I like the idea of urging large organisations to employ local tradesmen. How would this be done, would it be through advertising or through FMB or Mastercraftmen enrollment.
