SAVE WINCHMORE HILL TICKET OFFICE!

Posted by David Burrowes, MP for Enfield, Southgate, at 14:57, Fri 30 January 2009:

I am writing to ask you to help me oppose First Capital Connect (FCC) plans to close Winchmore Hill station ticket office on Saturdays and reduce opening hours on Monday to Friday.

FCC plans to change the hours of 47 stations and Winchmore Hill is one of 3 which could see the ticket office being closed on a Saturday. The office would also close earlier at 10.30 rather than 1.45 pm between Monday and Friday.

FCC's reasons for the closure are the high premiums paid to Government and loss of revenue. I recognise the economic pressures on FCC but the proposal to close the ticket office on Saturdays is particularly objectionable coming on the back of fare increases. We need staff for security, journey advice and ticket sales. Winchmore Hill is a busy station with 135 tickets issued on a Saturday. A ticket office is particularly useful on a Saturday when less regular users are most likely to need assistance.

Passenger power won the day against South West Train's proposals which were rejected by the Government upon the basis that opening hours could only be reduced where there were less than 12 sales per hour. We need to make sure the Government also rejects FCC's plans to shut our ticket office on Saturdays.

Time is short. The consultation ends on Tuesday 3rd February. Please send in your objections by email or letter to the following addresses:
