Overdevelopment

Posted by Bob Spink, MP for Castle Point, at 09:43, Sun 19 October 2008:

Dear Resident,

I hope I find you well and would be delighted to get your views on overdevelopment in Castle Point, the pressure this puts on our infrastructure and public services and the need to protect our greenbelt. just email me your views on

spinkr@parliament.uk

Many thanks for using this service to hear from me and let me know if I can be of any help at any time. I'm not interested in your politics and am not asking for anything from you, not even your vote.

Yours Bob.

Here is copy of my press release on this issue a few days ago:

Bob fights for Castle Point in Parliament

Bob Spink: Ministers have confirmed that there is sufficient previously developed—or so-called brownfield land—in the Thames corridor to meet the Government’s current building targets for the region in full, so why are the Government continuing to put so much greenbelt at risk in the area, and in Castle Point in particular?

The Rt Hon Margaret Beckett: The Government are not putting greenbelt at risk. We are against such housing development. It is for Castle Point Borough Council to consider how they make their proposals. Knowing him as I do, I am confident that he will keep a close eye on that and, should the council make such proposals, that he will raise them again.

Bob Spink: They already have for 100s of houses.

Margaret Beckett: My understanding is that the local authority has talked of perhaps doing so at some time in the future, but that there are no concrete proposals at present.

Bob says:

“On 29th March 2007 I launched the Castle Point wide

campaign, Save Our Greenbelt & Fair Play in Planning’.

“This supports excellent specific campaigns in Daws Heath,

Thundersley, Hadleigh, Benfleet and on Canvey.

“I congratulate all involved in these worthy campaigns and

am working with all local people on these important issues.

I hope we have done enough to change councillors’ policy.”
