Highgate Police Team - Success

Dear friend,
As you may be aware over recent years I have been campaigning with local residents, ward councillors and residents groups to get a police team for Highgate.
Highgate is split between three Boroughs – Islington, Camden and Haringey and for far too long, Highgate seemed to have come bottom of the police agenda in terms of consideration when deploying police resources.
When I was on the Metropolitan Police Authority, I pushed Highgate's case a number of times publicly – and of course, there were other areas in London also split between different boroughs – which helped our cause.
The Metropolitan Police Authority and Metropolitan Police have now run a pilot scheme in Crystal Palace and following my letter in January to the Chair of the Metropolitan Police Authority about policing in Highgate, I am pleased to be able to tell you that by 3rd April Highgate will have it's own police team - comprising of 1 sergeant, one constable and two police community support officers, far from perfect but a good start.
At long last, a promise of joined up policing for the residents of Highgate.
The concrete factory saga rumbles on I understand the Planning Inspector will be holding his last session on 20th March. Although it is not a session for the public to give evidence, people are welcome to attend to listen to the final arguments and summing up.
Both Councillor Laura Edge (Stroud Green) and I had opportunity to put our strong objections (as did numerous residents) to the unwelcome and unwanted proposals and very much hope the Planning Inspector will listen to what has been said and will uphold the refusal for permission.
No set timetable has been given for a decision, but we will of course make as many people as possible aware of the decision once it is given - and please do let us know if you would like a window poster stating your objection.
Best wishes,
Lynne Featherstone MP
PS I know many people have contacted me concerned about Labour's policy on Iraq. I thought therefore you might be interested in the latest figures I have got from the Government on the costs of the Iraq war – over £3,000 million. Full details at http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/news1563-iraq.htm
