Parents into Work

A new initiative aimed at supporting parents who want to return to work after having children has been welcomed by Watford MP, Claire Ward.

The scheme is being run as part of the Government's Sure Start programme which has resulted in dozens of Sunshine Children's centres being set up across Hertfordshire with the support and backing of the county council.

The Sunshine centre ,based in Oxhey ,has now received funding to set up a Parents into Work scheme at two sites in Watford town centre- one in Market Street and the other at a new building as part of the re-development of the Watford Springs site in the Lower High Street. The project will be registered as an independent charity with trustees from the local community including Watford Women's Centre, Girl About & Connections, Rookery Residents Association, Bushey & Oxhey Infants School, Bromet Primary School and Oxhey Early Years Centre. The aim is to work with local businesses, educational authorities and children's support agencies to provide a range of help and support to parents - especially those on low incomes

Miss Ward who has a two year old daughter and whose son, Oliver, was born earlier this year said: "As a working mother myself I know only too well the difficulties of balancing a full time job with the need to spend as much time as possible with your family. For single parents it's even harder to get the balance right and this is where the Back to Work scheme will be particularly valuable. It will support and prepare parents to gain education and other skills needed to return to work while bringing up their children. "
