Post Office Branches Set For Closure In Mid Bedfordshire

Today the Post Office Ltd formally launched a consultation exercise into the proposed closure of 24 Post Office Branches across Bedfordshire, including Luton.
The Post Office Ltd have confirmed that amongst the branches that have been proposed for closure are Stewartby and Chalton in the Mid Bedfordshire constituency. The Post Office Network Change Programme will lead to the closure of up to 2,500 branches nationally.
I am extremely concerned about the impact these proposed closures would have in our local communities, particularly for vulnerable people such as the elderly and disabled who rely on such services.
I am particularly concerned about proposals to close the Stewartby and Chalton branches in my constituency and the impact this would have. With the start of the consultation exercise this week, I am calling on local residents to make their views known to the Post Office Ltd.
The Government have told the Post Office they must close so many branches nationwide, but its locally communities who will suffer.
The local public consultation on the Area Plan Proposal for Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and South Lincolnshire will commence on 8th July 2008.
The local public consultation will last for a period of six weeks and the closing date for feedback is 26th August 2008.
