Bringing Parliament closer to people
Posted by Jo Swinson, MP for East Dunbartonshire, at 11:49, Mon 30 June 2008:
For some time now I have been podcasting (little mini-audio diaries): http://www.joswinson.org.uk/pages/podcasts.html and putting clips of my contributions in Parliament on my website: http://www.joswinson.org.uk/pages/allvideos.html
To make it easier for people to search for what they are interested in, I wanted to set up a YouTube page with a search facility. However, the Parliamentary authorities prohibit this. Video clips of Parliament can only be posted on a MP's personal website.
Frankly, I think this is all a bit ridiculous, so have started a campaign against it, raising it in the House of Commons and meeting with the Parliamentary authorities to try to convince them to move into the 21st century.
Please feel free to post a comment to let me know what you think, and if you agree you can always join the Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Axe-Parliaments-YouTube-ban/10131801380
Kind regards Jo
