A brief introduction

Posted by Hilary Armstrong, MP for North West Durham, at 14:17, Thu 5 June 2008:

Hello,

Thank you for signing up on Hear From Your MP and indicating you would like to hear from me as your local Member of Parliament.

My name is Hilary Armstrong and I have represented the seat of North West Durham as a Labour MP since the 1987 general election. I was re-elected your representative in Parliament in the 2005 general election with a majority of 13,443.

During my twenty one years in Parliament I have championed local issues and constituents and served in the Labour cabinet as Chief Whip (2001 – 06) and Minister for the Cabinet Office and Social Exclusion (2006-07). I have a particular interest in children’s policy (I am the currently chairing the Labour Party’s Children’s Manifesto Group), social exclusion and international development.

I am keen to hear your views and thoughts on anything from local issues to Durham, to national policy. I am also happy to get involved with any problems or cases you are having and that you think I as your MP may be able to help with. Please do not hesitate to email me at armstrongh@parliament.uk or contact my constituency office on 01388 767065. I also hold regular surgeries in Consett and Crook.

With my best wishes,

Hilary Armstrong MP
