Last week I sponsored a Bill to provide Council planners with control over development of gardens. Present Government guidelines classify gardens as Brownfield sites and encourage developers to buy up properties with gardens and then build on the gardens and sell them off as separate properties. The Bill would make 'garden grabbing' more difficult by recognising in the planning process the value of gardens for the local environment. Next week I am supporting another Bill tightening up the law governing mobile phone masts. If passed it will give proper account of the concerns of local residents who have to live near to these masts.
Sadly these Bills are unlikely to make it to the statute book due to insufficient debating time given by Government. My ideal Bill would set a time limit on all laws to review whether they were still necessary and were fulfilling their original purpose. I do not hear a clamour from constituents to make new laws but rather to make sure existing ones are being better enforced.

Good idea - also, it might be worth raising the issue of the ridiculously large amount of school playing fields being sold off for new supermarkets and shopping centres, despite the government's pledge to prevent this.

I was quite sad that that the Twiggster didn't win last time, and was fairly pessimistic about Mr Burrowes's win. But, I'm delighted to see our MP using this service. I've also been quite impressed at the communication recently sent through our doors.
I don't quite understand his hatred of mobile phone masts: I presume he has a mobile phone, like the rest of us, and presume that he wants the thing to work. To just be a 'not in my back yard' and support an outright ban on them is clearly not practicable, but his website (recently redesigned, I note) isn't very clear on his stance. (Nor was the letter-box mailing).
I do support not having gardens turned into more houses; though if the council feel they can tell me which grass seed to use in my garden, or whether the roses look better over there, then I'll tell them where to get off.

Dear Mr Burrows,
> My ideal Bill would set a time limit on all laws > to review whether they were still necessary and > were fulfilling their original purpose.
An excellent notion that sadly has little chance of comming to pass.
Congratulations on embracing this medium. This lead me to your website and your person blog - congratulations on the regular updating - keep up the good work. Will you be extending your use of this technology to generate more interaction with your constituencies via, for example, a public online forum?
