End of Heathrow Consultation and Post Office Closures

Posted by Susan Kramer, MP for Richmond Park, at 11:39, Tue 11 March 2008:

Firstly, as many of you will know, the Heathrow consultation has now closed. I attended the HACAN rally to mark the end of the consultation, and it was brilliant to see so many people from all over London turning out to show that in reality, the fight has only just begun. We heard many inspiring speeches, including one from Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg.

While the consultation has ended, the fight continues. I also visited Downing Street recently with a group of children whose learning is affected by aircraft noise. They handed in a letter about how noise from planes overhead has a really terrible effect on their learning. Not only is Heathrow expansion harming the quality of life of adults, it is also harming the education of our children.

I will continue to fight to stop these plans, and any further expansion, but I need your help. Would you like to get involved in campaigning against Heathrow expansion? Do you have ideas about creative ways to get our message across? Please do let me know by emailing info@susankramer.org.uk or contacting my office at 8876 8914.

We learned recently the Post Office branches in London that are under threat of closure under the Government’s latest round of closures. In the constituency only one Post Office is threatened, the Chestnut Grove branch in North Kingston. I recently visited the parade of shops there, and it is clear that closing this Post Office will have a negative effect on local people, and the viability of the other shops there. Local residents tell me that if the Post Office was closed, they would be forced to go further afield, difficult for the elderly and those with buggies.

Please do sign my petition against the closure by emailing info@susankramer.org.uk with Post Office petition in the subject line. It is vital that as many people as possible sign up, so that we can save this 107 year old Post Office.

Best wishes,

Susan Kramer MP for Richmond Park and North Kingston
