Here is a brief report on some of the issues I've recently been involved with here in the constituency and in Parliament.
At Westminster, I've just launched a report on tackling fuel poverty, on behalf of the Parliamentary group on Debt and Personal Finance (which I chair). The report makes a number of recommendations about an issue which I know is important to many people both locally and at national level. Here in Edinburgh North & Leith, I'm holding a consultation day for local organisations, to be held at the new Telford College on the morning of Saturday 22nd September. The main focus of the event is to give local communities an opportunity to let me know what they are looking for from the new UK Government led by Gordon Brown. One local issue which has been very much in the news recently has been the plans for school closures and service cuts announced by the LibDem/SNP administration on Edinburgh City Council. I've been working with a number of local groups who've been concerned about these proposals, and you can find more details on my website.
