The future of the 603

Posted by Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, at 18:59, Thu 16 August 2007:

You may remember our long running and ultimately successful campaign to get a bus introduced running from Muswell Hill to Swiss Cottage - the 603. That route is now an everyday part of people's lives (albeit still only at school peak travel hours).

I was therefore alarmed to hear that the 603 was up for review but that residents' views had not been sought. Given the importance of this route to local people I have now written to the Commissioner of Transport for London, Peter Hendy, insisting that we be given time to make our feelings known.

Not only is the 603 very valuable but it is about to become much more so. Camden's new Lib Dem administration have just put forward plans for a brand new secondary school, probably in Swiss Cottage, and have continued to reduce the number of school run parking permits. Whilst this is undoubtedly good news for the people of Camden it does make it even more important that we have good transport links from Swiss Cottage to Muswell Hill. So I will be fighting for the 603 to not only be retained as a route but also for this absolutely vital service to be extended throughout the day.

If you would like to add your support to our campaign please reply to this email expressing your support and I will forward your comments to the commissioner. Please also let me know if you'd be able to deliver leaflets in your local area to spread the word further.

Kind regards,

Lynne
