Local round-up

Posted by Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, at 17:48, Thu 2 August 2007:

Just a quick update to let you know where we are with a few of the major projects currently happening around the area.

Muswell Hill Library.

Good news! The plan for a restaurant at the centre of Muswell Hill Library (the case for which still has not been made) has been shelved. Unfortunately there is still much vagueness and foot-dragging over the rest of the plans. There is still no timetable and this is a worry.

Hornsey hospital.

The new plan is for the hospital to become one of about six "polyclinics" around Haringey. These are sort of community hospitals without beds. It will be good to have a brand new state of the art facility but we must all be on our guard to make sure that we don't lose local doctors by moving GPs into the facility against the wishes of patients.

Post offices.

The Labour Government are still refusing to say which the 150 post offices they are planning to close across London are. We have been pressing them hard but so far to no avail. I certainly don't think we can afford any more post office closures around here and will be fighting hard to make sure Brown's axe misses us.

Until next time

Lynne
