Parkland Walk - have your say

Parkland Walk
Some of you might have read my column on the future of Parkland Walk. Basically many people are worried that the funding from Transport for London to Haringey council for improvements may result in improvement that make cycle speeds fast, but do nothing to improve the nature character of the Parkland. Many users (pedestrians and recreational cyclists) and the Friends of Parkland walk feel this particular meandering pathway in a nature reserve would be threatened if it became a speedway. These views were the majority expressed at a packed public meeting but I want to know what YOU think. That's why I've set up an online survey at www.libertyresearch.org.uk/take/103.
Please do take the time to fill it in - your views really do matter!
The tragedy in Darfur From something very local to something very far away, but still very important. Many of you will have been watching the tragedy that has been unfolding in Darfur in the news over the last few years. It is very clear to me that what we are now witnessing is a genocide. Immediate deployment of the African Union troops, a no - fly zone, a proper and extensive arms embargo, targeted travel bans and asset seizures as well as meaningful sanctions are all essential to ensure peace in the area. Yet the Government is doing nothing. Please take a moment to lobby the Government and let them know we cannot stand by and watch yet another genocide unfold. Hornsey hospital - it's a start but still not enough
Some of you may have heard the news regarding Hornsey hospital. The Department of Health unveiled a £1.5 million cash injection on 11th April 2007 that will be used to build the new Hornsey Central Hospital (as a polyclinic) - obviously this is very good news for all of us that campaigned so hard to get the money. But the £1.5 million is £5.5 million short of the amount we asked for - the amount we need to build a proper community hospital. We need to make sure this money is used to provide extra services for the people of the area - not just to move pharmacies and GP's practices into a new home. The Primary Care Trust must properly consult with local people, GPs and pharmacists on what services should be provided, as well as transport and access to the site. All the latest news will be on my blog at www.lynnefeatherstone.org as soon as I hear about it so watch this space.
Kind regards
Lynne

As a regular user od Parkland Walk I gladly started filling in your survey. I have already written to you about this issue, and was really pleased you had gone to the trouble of putting up an online survey on this issue.
I was pleased, that is, until the final two pages of your survey.
Firstly, you asked for my voting preference. What does that have to do with this local issue?
Secondly, your privacy policy gives your political party the right to use all the personal details you demand in the survey to contact me for party political reasons. There is no way for me to opt out of this on the website itself, which is appalling practice on the web, usually deployed by only the most cowboyish of spam-merchants websites.
I was suddenly hit by a concern that the survey isn't really an exercise in gaining local opinion on Parkland Walk, but rather a slightly clumsy attempt to build a database of profiled voters on behalf of your political party.
Which one is it, Lynne? A genuine survey, or a data capture exercise?
If it's the former, something I very much hope, please fix the issues above.
