The Date Is Set For Super Safari!

Posted by Nadine Dorries, MP for Mid Bedfordshire, at 15:45, Wed 6 June 2007:

Apologies for e-mailing you again so soon after my last one, but I wanted to keep you up to the date as to the latest news on the 'Super Safari.'

As you will be aware, the Duke of Bedford has very kindly agreed to provide a free open day at Woburn Safari Park for local children who may be disabled or with acute special educational needs.

The event will take place on Thursday 12th July 2007 from 2pm - 6.30pm - there will be no charge for children and adults who attend. Parents of those who would be interested in attending are advised to visit my website or contact my Offices directly.

I am delighted that following my suggestion the Duke of Bedford has generously decided to open up Woburn Safari Park for free to local children who may be disabled or have acute special educational needs. Some of our most vulnerable children - and their parents - deserve an opportunity to enjoy themselves, and I would like to thank the Duke of Bedford for his generosity. I know this is going to be a great event and an important opportunity for parents to meet up and establish new networks of support.

It is going to be a magical day out for children who otherwise wouldn’t get to see the park. Woburn Safari park staff have been amazing and are going all out to make sure that the day is both bespoke and memorable for all the children and their carers. We don’t have very long to co-ordinate the day given that it is happening on Thursday 12th July 2007. However, the response from people who know of children who may benefit and from people wishing to help has so far been fantastic.

The day is for children who are disabled, have acute special educational needs, are vulnerable or seriously ill, as well as their parents or carers. Due to the nature of the reserve, children will have to be transported in a car, although it may be possible for some children to attend in a mini bus. Children and their families must also bring their own packed tea, although drinks will be provided.

If you know of children and their parents who will benefit, please let me know as soon as possible. Please keep visiting my website for further information or look in the local media.

Once again, I can’t thank the Park, the Duke, or the staff, especially the Chief Executive, Chris Webster, enough for their generosity and support in getting this fantastic day off the ground.

If parents would be interested in attending they can either visit my website, email me or write to me at the House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.

The programme for Thursday 12th July 2007 is as follows:

1.00pm - Children and their parents/guardians start to arrive.

2.00pm - 3.00pm - Drive around the Safari Park.

3.15pm - All meet in the Amphitheatre and divided into groups.

3.30pm - Each group is allocated a guide and shown the leisure areas and entertainers.

5.30pm - Display with the sea lions.

6.00pm - Packed tea. Drinks will be provided.

6.30pm - Ends.

If you have any thoughts or views on this, or any other issues then please get in contact with me in the usual way.
