Policing and School Funding

School Funding - Along with my colleagues across the East Riding I am continuing to campaign against government under-funding of our local pupils. In the 2007-8 school year a pupil in the East Riding will receives hundreds of pounds less in funding than an average pupil in Hull. That can't be allowed to continue, particularly when you consider the state of some of our school buildings. We need fairer funding from central government.
Police Stations – I agree with the sentiments of the Chairman of the Humberside Police Authority that police stations should be opened longer than they are at present. That’s why I launched a campaign along with Cllr Mark Preston for longer opening hours of that police station. Over 700 residents in Howden signed that petition, showing the strength of feeling there is over this issue. The Chief Constable has a slightly different view which I am afraid I do not subscribe to. It is pointless building police stations if they are not accessible.
