St Andrews Agreement

I am interested in hearing from constituents about their opinions on the St Andrews Agreement and the current political situation. Specifically, I would welcome views on the following question: "If the IRA end their violence and criminality for good and Sinn Fein give their full support to the Police and the Courts in Northern Ireland, should the DUP enter a power-sharing Executive that includes Sinn Fein after the Assembly elections next year?" Yes,all fo us have failed somewhere along the line of the last few decades. What we as humans created was a corruption of Christ's kingdom vision. Reconciliation or at the very least peace building, is not just about justice ,nor demanding apologies, it is about truth, compassion and mercy as well. All of these elements are a delicate balancing act and no aspect of them may be left out in the creation of a fair and equal new Northern Ireland. To do this re building of society we do not need victories, power corruptions, winners and losers, we need to listen and hear and reconstruct. To do that we sometimes have to do what appears unsavoury. We do it in faith and hope for the future generations. Olive Bell

Hello Mr D, I am extremely concerned at the prospect of PSF being allowed to hold any sort of office while their chief protagonists fail to fully support the resolution of past crimes. Not only is it suspected (!) that they have personally and actively taken part in planning and authorising some of the most appalling cases of murder, mass murder and other crimes against life and property, but uniquely among political parties in the free world, they are not being required to fully and openly account for their personal histories, in public forum.
Until that should happen (and I can't see it in my lifetime), this 'party' should not be permitted to hold any sort of authority over the people of this country, or indeed of the Republic. Even then, I believe that their clear responsibility for the atrocities of the past disqualifies them in any case. This does not, of course, apply to those members of their organisation who have never committed any sort of crime; there may well be committed revolutionary socialists among their number with clean hands, and in the spirit of democracy there can be no objection to their legitimate political aspirations. Not that I believe 'revolutionary socialism' to be a particularly legitimate goal, mind. Paul C, Dromore
