New Email from Lynne Featherstone MP

Posted by Lynne Featherstone, MP for Hornsey and Wood Green, at 16:13, Thu 8 December 2005:

Welcome to those of you who have signed up to this fabulous scheme since my last email to you!

The HearFromYourMP.com sites have now had their official 'launch', I was unable to be there, but my sincere thanks to the team these sites have given people a valuable tool to keep in touch with their Member of Parliament.

I have started some campaigns recently in the constituency and I would like to keep you updated:

Postal Survey - the first of the 7,000 surveys we have received are going to Royal Mail for direct response. I will be shortly arranging a meeting to set up a local 'Mail Watch' group as many people indicated they would like to set up a local group to monitor the complaints - although it is important we remember that there have been many positive comments, especially about some of the postmen and women. Do let me know if you'd like to be involved.

Business Recycling - this campaign to get recycling facilities provided not just for residents but also for local businesses has struck a chord with many of you. I am trying to get a meeting with the group that oversees packing in the UK - as we need to reduce the amount of packaging too, thereby resulting in fewer items needing to be recycled in the first place.

Concrete Batching Plant, Cranford Way - next Tuesday the Planning Inspectorate starts its Public Inquiry into the application by London Concrete to build a factory in Hornsey. The inquiry starts at 10am for four days and will be held at the Civic Centre, High Road, Wood Green N22 8LE. I hope to see you there.

I also have been busy in Parliament, where I led for the Liberal Democrats on the Violent Crime Reduction Bill. In fact I put forward one of my own amendments - to increase the sentence for knife crimes from 2 years to 7 years, in line with gun crimes - though this was not selected by the House Authorities for debate.

Don't forget you can sign up for regular email updates through my own website, or read my 'blog' to catch up on what I am doing on your behalf at http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/blog.htm

Best wishes,

Lynne PS Another useful website to visit to read details about the proposed concrete factory is http://www.greenN8.org.uk
