Commons Chamber On Monday 30 October Jeremy presented to the House of Commons the Somerset County Gazette’s petition calling for the Hydrographic Office to stay in Taunton.

Home Affairs Select Committee Jeremy has regularly attended meetings of the Home Affairs Select Committee, which this month has focused on an inquiry into Young Black People and the Criminal Justice System and Human Rights legislation. Also at Westminster:
Early Day Motion on Armistice Day On 23 October Jeremy tabled a parliamentary petition known as an Early Day Motion, saying that the anniversary of Armistice Day would be the most suitable date for a new national public holiday. The motion attracted much support and Jeremy appeared on several radio and television programmes speaking on the issue.

Meetings on Musgrove Park Hospital On 17 October Jeremy met with Patricia Hewitt MP, Secretary of State for Health, to make clear the urgent need for a new Cancer Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital. He also raised the widespread public concern about the closure of the Alfred Morris Centre at the hospital. He was accompanied to the meeting by Lord Alfred Morris of Manchester.
On 6 November he also met with representatives from AMEC, the company contracted to build the Cancer Centre, to push for the completion of the project.
Meeting constituent lobbys Jeremy met with constituents lobbying parliament on issues ranging from NHS cuts and GM foods to controlling the arms trade.
In Taunton
On 13 October Jeremy attended the Higher Education Awards Ceremony at SCAT and also met members of the local business community at Summerfields Community Business Lunch.
Jeremy attended Taunton Carnival and went out on the beat in Halcon with Beat Manager PC May.
Jeremy and the Mayor of Taunton launched Spaces for Sport, an initiative which turns disused or worn out areas into new sporting facilities for the local community.
Jeremy will be attending Remembrance Sunday services in Taunton and Wellington.
