Dear friend,
I was recently lobbied by local members of Friends of the Earth, as part of their “Big Ask” campaign on climate change. I fully back their campaign – so was glad to be the recipient of over 800 postcards (so far) from people all around Hornsey and Wood Green backing the campaign for a Climate Change Bill. It would see legally enforceable targets for reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 3% every year.
I’ve not only written to the Government asking them to back this Bill, but I have also Tabled a Motion in Parliament to ask for a showing of Al Gore’s film, An Inconvenient Truth, at Parliament. I saw the film earlier this year and it makes a very persuasive and strong case – so we should certainly make sure that plenty of other MPs see the film too!
The Liberal Democrats launched our own “Green Tax Switch” campaign at our conference last month – you can find out more about our plans to tax pollution more and cut other taxes instead at http://www.greentaxswitch.com and you can also watch our 3-minute movie on climate change at http://www.libdems.org.uk/news/lib-dem-ppb.html
On Saturday we held our own “Green Tax Switch” stall, where we were collecting signatures on petitions and just generall chatting to people about climate change.
Last month I also started letting people post comments online at my blog – http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/blog.htm
Just click the “Comment” link under any story, then “post a comment”. You then type in your comment and select, “blogger”, “other” or “anonymous”. There are a few recent stories that I’d particularly be interested in hearing people’s views on:
- CPZs and parking in Haringey - http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/2006/10/haringey-parking-plans.htm
- Plans to change where buses park in Highgate - http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/2006/10/where-should-buses-park-in-highgate.htm
- The future of Muswell Hill Library - http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/2006/09/muswell-hill-library_28.htm
And as we move further into cyberspace you can see our first film: http://www.lynnefeatherstone.org/2006/09/hornsey-hospital-watch-my-film.htm
With best wishes
