£4.5 million of extra support for pupils in South Thanet

Posted by Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, at 13:52, Thu 19 December 2013:

Laura Sandys has welcomed the news that pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in South Thanet have been allocated £4,534,000 for 2014/15 to help them achieve their full potential.

Laura said: “This is good news for pupils, good news for schools and good news for families across Thanet. The Pupil Premium is important because this funding gets to those schools and students who need it most Many headteachers have told me that they have found the existing level of pupil premium invaluable.

“At one school in Thanet where 56% of the children are in receipt of free school meals, the headteacher advised me that the pupil premium has had great success, helping to double attainment and improve maths and English scores by 41%.

“The Pupil Premium is working which makes this increase in funding particularly welcome. In total, pupils in South Thanet will have received £11,541,000 between 2011 and 2015. This money provides local schools with the support they need to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, can fulfil their potential.”
