This month the Chancellor’s budget confirmed that George Osborne’s economic plan for our country is failing. As millionaires are receiving a tax cut, people in Wirral and all over the country will be hit by the government’s bedroom tax. This is shameful.
Constituents of mine affected by the tax have told me how worried they are about what the future will bring. Whilst the Chancellor adopted Labour’s plan for a national insurance break for small firms who hire new staff, he needs to do much more to get the economy going. We’ve wasted nearly three years when the economy should have recovered, and the economic insecurity my constituents face must be tackled.
Locally, I have been working for some time with the local film sector to encourage more films to be made here in Merseyside. I really believe in Merseyside’s potential for film making. We are fortunate enough to have great locations and wonderful talent here. This month we met With Amanda Nevill from the British Film Institute. I am delighted that they offered to host a Liverpool Film summit at their HQ in London.
Another exciting project I am involved with is the Port Sunlight Riverside Park on the site of the old Bromborough dock landfill site. This project has taken 2 years to get back on track after the Conservative/Lib Dem government stopped all spending in 2010, which prevented it moving ahead then. This month I planted the park’s first tree and I am really looking forward to it opening fully hopefully next year.
I would like to wish everybody a happy and peaceful Easter.

Dear Alison,
I was disappointed to see you abstained from the vote in the House of Commons a week ago concerning the poorest in society.
