Douglas, right from the beginning, I supported your democratic proposals for elected local police commissioners. However, the Government has really blown it this time. For instance, we have a new voting system, never before used in this constituency, but the Electoral Commission failed to explain how it works. When I spoke to someone there on the phone, they told me they deliberately did not tell people how their votes would be counted and used "to make it as simple as possible"! How is that democratic? Then I tried to find out the period of office of these new Police and Crime Commissioners (and who thought up that title - are they going to commission crime?) by emailing the Home Office. Did anybody reply? You guessed it! So, presumably, these PCCs will be elected for eternity or at least until they die of old age. How is that democratic? No Douglas, your great idea has been truly wrecked by the Government. What a shambles!
