ROGER IS BACKING ‘ACTION FOR RAIL’.
Posted by Roger Godsiff, MP for Birmingham, Hall Green, at 10:08, Fri 28 September 2012:
Roger Godsiff says: “The railways are a shambles” and backs ‘Action for Rail’ in bringing railways back into community ownership.
He went on to say: “The railways ought to be taken back into community ownership not least because the rail operating companies and the company running the rail infra-structure have received massive grants since privatisation – far in excess of the subsidy which was paid to British Rail. The operators then make their profits and are happy to leave the public, as always, to pick up the bill”.

The whole economy is in shambles and not only railways. The governments should have allowed the banks to fail and then take them up in public ownership. They would have got these banks cheaply and been able to manage them properly, instead of spending billions of punds to bail them out. This would have also ended the bonus culture. Look at where we are today? Hosterity measures have impacted the economy and employment. The future generations will have to pay for the debts that the governments were forced to incur. Printing notes is not a solution if the money in circulation is not backed by productivety and would increase inflation. Is Islamic banking a solution as it prohibits investments based on speculations? Have we turned into a nation of speculators and gamblers?

Wonderful to hear this from Roger Godsiff. Why on EARTH don't we have a unified, efficient, affordable public rail system? Presumably because of the greed (greed is evil whatever religion or irreligion it masquerades under) of privileged entrepreneurs who have the public over a barrel. Yes, let's re-nationalise the railways - all of them, and make them the most efficient in the World - let's make them something that Brits can be rightly proud of.

What are the reasons privitisation has not worked? Is change of ownership from private sector to public sector a solution? I personally believe that joint venture in the form of private/public ownership may be a solution. How can greed be curtailed when the laws appear to favour and support the greedy?
