Joint Statement on proposed changes to The Insolvency Service
Posted by Mark Reckless, MP for Rochester and Strood, at 10:12, Thu 5 July 2012:
Below is the joint statement from Tracey Crouch MP and myself regarding proposed changes to The Insolvency Service which may result in the merger of the Medway office with the office in Whitstable. I would like to hear your views on the proposed changes.
“The Insolvency Service’s decision to consult on the proposed closure of its Medway office is obviously disappointing. While the plans set-out by The Insolvency Service would merge the Medway office with its office in Whitstable, this represents a poor deal for Medway. Not only would the merger jeopardise the 31 jobs at the Medway office, but it would deprive people in Medway, an area with well publicised debt issues, of a vital debt service. No decision has yet been taken on the proposed merger and having formally submitted our views to the Government and the consultation, we hope The Insolvency Service will think again.”

Its not moral nor right.............. at the cost of 31 jobs and the services offered for businesses going through troubled times.

This must not go ahead. This service should,no,MUST stay in Medway.Should this go from Medway a really important service facility will be lost.

Its not the question of whether or not Offices are closed or merged, it is the question of not enough being done to assist businesses and individuals keep going through difficult financial times. Stop the Bankruptcies and there is no problem for a local area like Medway

Anyone suffering from insolvency problems in the Medway towns can only be disadvantaged further by such a closure. And by making another 31 people redundant create insolvency problems for some of them. I firmly believe it is the duty of every government to create jobs not destroy them. It is far better for a person to be employed than to stand in a dole queue. It gives self respect and purpose to ones life.

Whistable is a long way from Medway. How can it be desirable to base The Insolvency Service there? Also, Medway is a area whose inhibitants and businesses already face many challenges, surely there is a real need to retain this service here within this community, where it is easily accessible?

While I see the need to make economies is all areas of public expenditure, it seems that this service is very important to businesses in these troubled times and Medway would seem to be the more logical area to keep this service. So much money is wasted in many areas of government, make the cuts in these first.

I'm sure all areas of public expenditure, if withdrawn will affect somebody. Personally I would take the UK out of the EU, that would save at least £40 million a day.
