Local Health Services

Once again our local health services appear to be under threat. Despite government claims of more money for the NHS, local health services face cut-backs. It was announced on Monday that the Sexual Health Clinic in Cottingham is to be closed from January 2007. This is a major concern to me as sexual health issues continue to be on the increase. I have tabled a question in Parliament on this issue. Furthermore, I have expressed my concern over the proposed restructuring of midwifery services in Goole. The midwives themselves are very concerned at the PCTs proposals. I believe we need to listen to those who actually provide a service and it is very worrying that midwives themselves have expressed concern. I will be continuing the fight for local services.

Hi, I am concerned also at the trimming of services at Hornsea Cottage Hospital. I know there is a lot of waste in the NHS. I know from experience that sometimes departments find themselves with surplus budget and have to use it all (sometimes on things which are not required) to ensure they spend it, so their budget isn't cut for the following year. The NHS will never cure that whilst it is dependent upon public funding. They will always ask for more instead of looking at how they can save money and divert savings into other departmental budgets. Hence you have important services being cut. The NHS needs a troubleshooter who has run a successful business and knows how and where to target waste, and how to use all resources to their best advantage. Good luck! Julie Fisk
