Simon Reevell encourages constituents to have their say in the Boundary Commission for England's consultation

Posted by Simon Reevell, MP for Dewsbury, at 18:17, Wed 14 March 2012:

The Boundary Commission for England is holding a consultation on responses to the proposed Parliamentary boundaries. The consultation will remain open until midday on 3 April 2012.

The Boundary Commission for England has published online all of the responses it received on the initial proposals for the new Parliamentary constituencies. The publication of the responses marks the start of a public consultation where people can let the Commission know the extent to which they agree or disagree with any of the earlier representations made by others. The representations include the written responses received during the Commission’s 12 week consultation period which closed in December and the oral representations made at 36 public hearings in October and November 2011.

After completion of the second consultation period, the Commission will consider whether to revise any of the initial proposals for constituencies. The Commission will conduct another consultation on any revisions that are made.

The Member of Parliament for Dewsbury, Simon Reevell, said, “I have always maintained that it is for the people to make decisions about constituency boundaries, not politicians. This is the last real chance for everyone to get involved in this process and I encourage people to make their views known.”

To take part in the consultation, please visit http://consultation.boundarycommissionforengland.independent.gov.uk/, email information@bcommengland.x.gsi.gov.uk or contact 35 Great Smith Street, London, SW1P 3BQ.
