In the interest of public safety, Simon Reevell MP urges Kirklees to extend their moratorium to all wind turbines

Posted by Simon Reevell, MP for Dewsbury, at 12:46, Mon 6 February 2012:

On hearing the news that Kirklees has issued a moratorium on granting permission for 10 kilowatt Evoco wind turbines, the local MP has called for it to be extended to all wind turbines until tests confirm that they are safe.

Simon Reevell is urging the Council to reconsider his call for a full moratorium following the damage caused to wind turbines in Hepworth and Upper Cumberworth in early January 2012.

Simon said, “The moratorium Kirklees has issued on the 10 kilowatt Evoco wind turbines which were damaged in the high winds at the beginning of January should be on all wind turbines until we know that they are safe. Before the high winds caused damage to these wind turbines, nobody knew that they were dangerous. This could be the case with many other wind turbines. We shouldn’t wait for others to fail before we consider what to do with them. Public safety is paramount and should be the priority.”
