Local MP asks for more power for local people to object to unwanted on-shore wind farms

A group of MPs, including the local MP for Dewsbury Simon Reevell, have written to the Prime Minister asking him to amend the National Planning Policy Framework to ensure that local people have the power to object to proposals for unwanted on-shore wind farms.
The letter also asks the Prime Minister to cut the subsidy for on-shore wind and to spread the savings made between other types of reliable renewable energy production and energy efficient measures.
Simon said, “The new National Planning Policy Framework must protect and enhance the right of local people to defeat unwanted on-shore wind farm proposals through the planning system. Many other Conservative MPs have the same concern and so a letter is being sent to the Prime Minister requesting that amendments are made to the National Planning Policy Framework so that local people have the power to object to unwanted and disproportionate wind farm developments.”
“Recent planning appeals have approved wind farm developments with the inspectors citing renewable energy targets as being more important than planning considerations. We are calling for the Prime Minister to ensure the planning inspectors know the importance of local heritage and that the local countryside must be given proper consideration.”
