Simon Reevell MP encourages all budding musicians to nominate themselves for the Rock the House competition
Posted by Simon Reevell, MP for Dewsbury, at 17:59, Wed 18 January 2012:
Are you the next Adele or Ed Sheeran? If so, your local MP wants to hear from you. The Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell is taking part in the second annual Parliamentary live music competition, Rock the House, and invites under-18s, solo artists, bands and live music venues to put themselves forward for entry.
The Rock the House competition was founded last year in support of the UK live music sector and counts rock legends Alice Cooper and Deep Purple’s Ian Gillan as Patrons.
Musicians and live music venues can find nomination forms online at www.rockthehouse2012.com. Once completed, please send the form to simon.reevell.mp@parliament.uk by 16 March 2012.
Successful nominees will go forward to the national competition which will be judged by a panel of international music industry experts and musicians. The finalists will then take part in a battle of the bands to determine the winner on 30 May 2012. The winner in each category will perform live during a reception on the Terrace at the House of Commons in the evening. As well as the recognition and opportunity to make contacts in the music business, prizes include music equipment and a chance to play at high profile festivals.
Simon said, “I want to encourage all musicians and live music venues to complete a nomination form. This competition aims to celebrate the best of up-and-coming artists and the live music venues which support them. It is over 25 years since I was the guitarist in a band so it is perhaps a little too late for me to represent the constituency but I want to make sure Dewsbury is part of this great opportunity.”
