*ANDREW BACKS FARESHARE SCHEME*
Andrew joined staff at Sainsbury’s Denton to back them as they spearheaded a scheme to encourage customers to buy an extra item, which would then be delivered to local charities and community projects by the charity FareShare this Christmas.
He was at the store to speak with customers about the one day food drive and provide support to the collection.
After the drive, Andrew said: “By taking part in this excellent initiative, shoppers in Denton and Reddish have helped to make a difference to local people suffering from food poverty.
Many charities are going to benefit from the food that was collected at the Denton store, so I thank the store’s customers for doing their bit by adding an extra item to their shopping.”
DENTON CARNIVAL A ROARING SUCCESS
Local councillors joined Andrew at the ever popular Denton Carnival
Andrew joined the Denton and Audenshaw Carnival on 11th September to lend his support.
Following the parade, he said: “It is wonderful that the whole community, whether local residents, businesses or services, have this opportunity to come together in a day of celebration. It shows us just how lucky we are to live here and gives us a chance to showcase the skills of our talented young people. The carnival has always had my full support and I will certainly ensure it continues in the future. Congratulations to the dedicated team that make sure it’s a resounding success year after year.”
MURAL UNVEILED AT REDDISH SOUTH STATION BY ANDREW GWYNNE MP
Andrew joins Friends of Reddish South Station to unveil a mural produced by young offenders
The theme of the mural is ‘second chances’ and it attempts to show that when we are given a second chance, we can change, try harder, do better and learn from our mistakes.
Andrew said: “It’s a great piece of public art and a symbol of the value of rehabilitation for young people who found themselves on the wrong side of the law. It’s clear that anybody can contribute to their community when given a second chance.”
ANDREW READS TO CLASS ON WORLD BOOK DAY
Andrew visits Denton West End Primary School to read to a class on World Book Day to celebrate the joy that comes with reading and to promote reading as a fun pursuit
‘DROP THE BILL’ CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED
As a Shadow Health Minister, Andrew launched the ‘Drop the Bill’ campaign in Westminster with Andy Burnham MP
Andrew launched the campaign to stop the unnecessary, unwanted, wasteful and damaging re-organisation of the NHS being pushed by the Tory-led government. As the biggest threat to end the NHS since the original Tory opposition to its creation, the campaign is vital to continuing to provide a service the country can be proud of.
Andrew said: “I am proud to be leading the campaign to save the NHS from these Tory plans with the Labour Health Team, as part of the party that created it more than sixty years ago. Public opinion is on our side, and I can only hope the coalition listens to the public outrage on this issue.”
ANDREW GRILLS CHANCELLOR ON JOBLESS FIGURES
Five-point plan announced as Andrew demands answers from Osborne
In Treasury oral questions, Andrew asked what the government were doing to help young people his constituency to get a job.
At the launch of Labour’s five-point plan, Andrew said: “This government really haven’t got a clue how to get us out of the economic slump, let alone deal with the growing number of jobless young people.
This is a really worrying time for families; struggling with higher food prices and gas bills and worried about their jobs and their children’s futures. That’s why I support Ed Balls’ five-point plan for jobs, which will help to create 100,000 jobs for young people all over the country.”
ACHIEVEMENTS OF JOHN NUGENT SCHOLAR CELEBRATED
The winner of the John Nugent scholarship was congratulated by Andrew as she received her award
Chor Kay Yeung, a student at Ashton Sixth Form College, was awarded £3,000 for each year of her four year course.

Glad to see this Fareshare Inititive is supported but I do think the issues of food & fuel poverty need to be continually raised within Parliament also as these issues are not being acted upon !!

I fully agree, Mark. I have questioned Ministers about what they are doing to deal with poverty several times in the past, both in the House and in written questions to Ministers. I also proposed a debate earlier this year, and spoke at length in it, on the importance of extending free school meals to every family that is considered to be under the poverty line, and on how we can improve the free school meal system and the benefit system to help those in poverty.
Given the economic situation and changes to the benefit system, more families are falling below the recognised poverty line, and so it is vital that we continue to raise these very important issues in Parliament.
