Simon Reevell welcomes additional carriages on Northern Rail trains to ease overcrowding

Simon Reevell, the Member of Parliament for Dewsbury, has welcomed the announcement that Northern Rail will receive 60 additional carriages to help ease overcrowding on the busiest train services. The extra carriages are provided as part of the Department for Transport’s rolling stock programme.
Ten of the additional carriages are already in use and the remaining 50 will come into use today, Monday 12 December 2011. As a result, on the Leeds to Manchester Northern Rail route, there are extra carriages on six services in the morning and on four in the afternoon. This means that there will be an increase in the number of seats on ten peak time services and that in total, there will be 1,100 extra seats on the route every week day.
Simon said, “I welcome the news that there will be more carriages on Northern Rail trains between Leeds and Manchester. I hope that this will help to ease the problem of overcrowding which makes the journey difficult for many commuters.”
“The announcement of extra carriages on Leeds to Manchester trains recognises the importance of the route for commuters. It is great news that the additional seats will make journeys more comfortable from now on.”
