Invitation to Reading Futures Fair - 29 September 2011
Posted by Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West, at 15:12, Mon 26 September 2011:
The Reading Futures Fair, a school careers event organised by me and local education charity the Central Berkshire Education Business Partnership (CBEBP), is being held this Thursday on September 29 at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre at Madejski Stadium.
Around 60 organisations, including companies, apprenticeship trainers, further and higher education providers, have already committed to take part in the all day event. Just about every sector is covered including engineering and construction, financial services, public sector, IT and communications, food and retail, hospitality, media, environment and property.
In order to make the event as interactive as possible, some of the organisations participating in the Futures Fair are also running seminars on interview techniques and mock interviews, job application tips and soft skills, a career in science, apprenticeships, going to university, cv writing, good money management skills and opportunities in the local economy in Reading and the Thames Valley.
Around 1,200 local secondary school pupils, together with their teachers, from Blessed Hugh Faringdon Catholic School, Denefield School, John Madejski Academy, Little Heath School, Reading Girls’ School and Theale Green Community School will be coming to the Futures Fair during the day.
The evening session, which will run from 5pm to 8pm, is open to everyone from across Reading. If you are a parent or guardian of secondary school students please do come along to the after-school session with your child(ren). This will be a great opportunity for parents and their children to talk together to the organisations present about future career options.
If you think you may be interested in coming to the Futures Fair event an online version of the Students’ Brochure is available to download at www.aloksharma.co.uk.
Best Wishes
Alok
