Olympic Legacy

A few weeks ago I asked in the House of Commons for the number of contracts and subcontracts awarded to local or, indeed, British companies in relation to the foreign companies working on the Olympic Games. While I did not get a direct answer there was some very encouraging news regarding the numbers of people employed.
This exchange did get me to thinking about the importance of the legacy the games could potentially deliver if we get the planning right. For too many cities once the Olympics are over they are left with expensive to maintain ‘white elephants’. However, I believe that Stratford will be different. Much of the site was run down and derelict and so the development is improving the area. There will be fist class leisure facilities, a huge shopping centre, pleasant open spaces and improved transport links. What we need to ensure is that we use these benefits to attract significant numbers of new businesses into the area.
I recognise that core plans to meet this requirement are already in place but my aim today is to ask you what measures you think the authorities should take to bring new business to the area.
Lee Scott.

Dear Mr Lee
I am far more concerned about the threatened closure of the A&E department in King George Hospital and the Trust's continued mismanagement, which has become a national scandal, than I am in attracting businesses to Stratford. I'm also concerned by the closure of loos in Redbridge, not much of an Olympics legacy to shout about!
Yours sincerely

Millions are being spent on the new Westfield Stratford and the olympic stadium So in my opinion, in order to bring more business to the area, it may be beneficial to build some prestigious housing developments in the surrounding area, which would entice people to live there. Having a new up and coming neighbourhood would, in itself, generate more business in the area. That is my view. Also, may be some hotels, and screen on the hill type cinema. All this takes more money, but in the end would pay off. That is my view.
