Pot Holes
Posted by Brandon Lewis, MP for Great Yarmouth, at 21:21, Thu 3 March 2011:
Years of Labour neglect followed by two harsh winters has left the nation’s roads in a sorry state. Peppered with potholes they are causing £2.8 billion a year in damage to cars, and local councils pay out £50 million in compensation to angry motorists.
To tackle this problem the Government has announced £100 million funding for pothole repairs. The AA welcomed the announcement, estimating that it will repair one-and-a-half million potholes.
This money will make a real difference In Great Yarmouth and the rest of Norfolk to the huge number of drivers and cyclists who are fed up with having to continually battle against dangerous potholes, giving them safer and smoother journeys.

Hi Brandon
I sent you an email some weeks ago reminding you of you pre election pledges which I never received a reply to. One of these was you didn't go in for political point scoring but I believe many of your questions are just that. I say this with feeling because you refuse to help us get a Public Inquiry into the outer harbour negotiations where we feel we have sufficient evidence to warrant an Inquiry. We can't get any answers from Mr. Pickles who I understand is responsible for things concerning communities. I am pleased the potholes are to be repaired but please stop you point scoring and give us the support you promised pre your election.

I made a pledge with regard to how I would conduct the General Election campaign and I stuck to it. Equally, I do not believe I politically point score generally however I am a politician so I make no apology for being political. Though I actually do not know what your reference to question links to. But as previously stated, I am not getting into a debate on the OH on this thread, there is one set up for that topic on this site and I have written to you directly on the topic as well as noting I am not going to keep going round in circles on an issue that i believe the authorities have answered, especially now there has been a scrutiny meeting on this at NCC. The issue over the OH is one for the Councils and Europe and was well before my time as MP.

Good news that the money will be available, however my concern is that in the past, many pot-holes have very easily re-opened after "repair". Please can we ensure HIGH QUALITY. LASTING repairs in future.
