Great News that Sandwich is awarded Fibre Optic Broadband

Posted by Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, at 12:47, Thu 13 January 2011:

Laura welcomes the great news from BT that Sandwich will one of the 7 English market towns to be allocated investment for super fast fibre optic broadband.

“It will be fantastic for the businesses and residents of Sandwich to have access to the fibre optic broadband. I hope it will aid and encourage new businesses in the Sandwich area as it will enable them to compete on a level playing field with companies from areas around the world that already benefit from high speed connectivity,” said Laura Sandys MP. “The government is determined to support the roll out of broadband infrastructure to support greater economic development and new jobs in areas such as in Sandwich and East Kent.”

BT yesterday announced that residents of Sandwich, along with seven other rural market towns in the South East, will have access to super-fast fibre optic broadband at speeds of up to 40Mb/s by spring 2012. The announcement follows last month’s news that, for the first time, BT would include a number of rural market towns in the next phase of its £2.5 billion fibre broadband roll-out.
