Labour's Control Centre Move to Hampshire Overturned by Coalition Government

Posted by Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, at 10:17, Tue 21 December 2010:

Having campaigned for many years against the Labour government’s amalgamation of our Kent Fire and Rescue control at a south east site in Hampshire, I am very pleased that this hugely expensive centralising scheme has been terminated by the coalition government. I have pressed the case on many occasions that the Hampshire site would have meant that we would have lost the expertise that our Kent based control bring to our fire and rescue. In addition Hampshire could not be further away from Thanet and Sandwich making it almost impossible for any local knowledge to be retained in this extravagant and unnecessary plan.

As part of the last Government’s regionalisation policies, Fire and Rescue control centre was to be moved to Hampshire combining all the control centres in the South East.
