Tourism in Great Yarmouth and Coastal Towns
Posted by Brandon Lewis, MP for Great Yarmouth, at 15:26, Thu 9 December 2010:
A huge amount of taxpayer’s money is spent by Visit Britain and Visit England, as well as the wasteful regional development agencies in attempt to market our tourist areas. How can quangos, filled with ranks of overpaid bureaucrats, with no real experience of the industry they supposedly represent the interests of our tourism operators?
We should allow those who run B&B’s, hotels, leisure parks and resorts, museums and other tourist attractions have the biggest say in marketing their area. They are the best people to decide how we promote Great Yarmouth as a great place for a holiday.

Here is that 1000 jobs offer again for Great Yarmouth. What is the rationale for these? are they the same imaginary 1000 jobs the outer harbour was going to bring plucked out of the air. Please may we have figures to say where these are coming from as in a business plan? While at it can we also know how many jobs the outer harbour will bring now, when and how. We started by losing 20. Have we made up for that number yet or still in deficit?

The same can be said for Eeegr with regard to being a waste of space and money. Who better to run the energy industry than the business men themselves. Still nothing tangeable on the decommisioning front. It's been weeks. The Dutch are now outlining the detail for their second decommisioning vessel and building work on the first is progressing well. I take it we are still in the ideas discussion. Outrageous !!

Dennis we are over that already in my view through supply chain locations, but again your comment is relevant to a different posting, not this topic. Kim, it is already happening and Great Yarmouth companies are involved in the decommissioning work already going on off our coast.

But we still have no decommissioning vessel. Unlike the Dutch.
