Daylight Savings
Posted by Brandon Lewis, MP for Great Yarmouth, at 18:10, Wed 1 December 2010:
The Daylight Savings Bill is gathering pace and is due to be heard in the House of Commons this Friday. With Great Yarmouth having such a strong tourist industry there are potentially huge benefits to our area on top of those outlined by the AA, Saga and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, who all argue that this move would cut down on accidents and encourage people to do more activities in the evenings during the winter. I intend to vote in favour and to speak on the topic this Friday but would welcome your views.

The Daylight Savings is beneficial in energy saving, therefore money saving and energy comsumption. This idea is being looked in good time.

The Bill passed its first stage today and as such will now go into committee to be thrashed out further. Seeing the comments above it is worth having a look on the parliament website at the bill wording. It does not set us directly onto CET but simply now asks the government to go forward with research and if a solution exists that may be acceptable to all the UK (ALL) then it will be tested. So a fair way to go. For Great Yarmouth and our tourism base it is a good start and it potentially could help road accidents and our carbon footprint. ROSPA is worth looking up on this as is the AA as both support it. Today was a decent debate and I managed to make 2 interventions to make points though I was not called to make a full speech due to a time restraint on the debate. My website has fell details of my thoughts and comments today: www.brandonlewis.org

Full research on this is the way forward, since it is not logical to make a decision, without being in possession of the facts.

this only saves energy based on the assumption that folk HAVE to start work @ 9.00 a.m., and therefore work 'til after darkness falls. What's wrong with starting work earlier, and using the natural lighting available during the day? that could save a fortune in energy use!!
