Helping Market Thanet’s Rich Heritage through ‘Destination History'
Posted by Laura Sandys, MP for South Thanet, at 12:45, Mon 15 November 2010:
I will be holding my next Destination History meeting in the Saxon Suite at the Stonelees Golf Centre, Ebbsfleet Lane, Ramsgate, CT12 5DJ on Friday 19th November commencing at 10.00am.
The meeting is being widely supported and will focus on taking forward the strategy for attracting tourism on an all-seasonal basis into Thanet. Turner Contemporary, Quex, Hornby, Salutation Sandwich, Visit Kent and many more will be presenting their activities for 2011 which will help everyone involved in the tourism industry locally to plan and market their own events in conjunction with these significant historical and cultural magnets in the area.
This meeting aims to help us all understand more about the big push we will be making next year in terms of marketing Thanet, its history and culture to tourists.
I think it will be a very useful event in giving us an indication of what next year will bring to boost our historical and cultural tourism.
Only last week, Thanet was recommended as one of the top 12 destinations in the world to visit by Frommer’s Guide. This event will aim to build on this success by bringing together many of the local organisations and initiatives that make Thanet such a great destination for visitors.

As I understand it, my taxes are being raised and my standards of living are being lowered because the country is in debt. And yet it would seem that we are affluent enough to bail out Ireland to the tune of £7 billion. It doesn't make sense to me, why don't the Irish borrow from whom we are borrowing from.Is this another tory scam. Who gets the money back when and if the Irish pay it back. The working man who lentt to them,no. Who is paying the interest on this money we are borrowing to lend to the Irish. To me the whole idea stinks, another capitalist con where the working man pays yet again, When working as a carpenter, more than once i have been laid off alongside my colleagues, sometimes midday, being told there is no more work for us, as we were going out the gates, a van load of irish were coming in to take over our jobs. Not only do the tories take your jobs away from you and give them to foriegn labour, they take your industries away and give them to foriegn countries, could you immagine Germany allowing Mercedes being sold to India, like we did with Rolls Royce, Jaguar and many other of our crown jewels, john smart
