Important Public Meeting Tonight from 7-9pm with Enfield PCT and David Burrowes MP

Posted by David Burrowes, MP for Enfield, Southgate, at 10:17, Mon 8 November 2010:

A reminder to attend an important public meeting organised by the PCT which will affect our hospital services. It takes place today 7.00 – 9.00pm - Trent Park Golf Club, Bramley Road, London N14 4UW.

The future of Chase Farm's emergency and maternity services have been in doubt for many years. After the Health Secretary announced a moratorium on the plans to downgrade services, a clinical review has taken place. The tests which Andrew Lansley laid down for the review include ensuring that GPs decide and that the public are engaged. The review has endorsed the previous strategy to move A&E and maternity services to Barnet and North Mid hospitals. I agree that GPs are in the best position to make the decision and I have been encouraging our local GPs to get involved. The NHS has suffered from being a political football and local decisions have been too subject to political whim. However I have real concerns that we don't confine ourselves to a strategy which was conceived under the last Government when centralised mergers of hospital services were imposed. I raised this particular issue in the House last week and Andrew Lansley agreed that Chase Farm Hospital can bring forward a new plan to embrace NHS reforms. I am calling on them to rise to this challenge.

Look forward to seeing you at Trent Park this evening if you can make it.

Best wishes

David
