With this year’s A-level and GCSE results announced, I’d just like to congratulate all students on their fantastic achievements. It has been another great year for students in the Harrogate and Knaresborough constituency, and it is wonderful to see that their hard work and effort has paid off.
From my own experience of visiting local schools, I know the dedication and commitment that goes into achieving such fantastic results by students, teachers, staff and parents alike.
These achievements make me very proud to be the MP for Harrogate, Knaresborough and Boroughbridge, and I’d again like to congratulate the students, teachers, staff and parents for all their work in achieving these great results.

Are these "fantastic achievements"? How does Harrogate compare with the national picture? What does the 99% that is bandied about on the News channels mean? Would 100% mean that everyone had "passed"? What is the use of an examination which everyone passes? The purpose of an examination must be to sort the sheep from the goats; and that means that some people will "fail". With the likelihood that university places will become scarcer in the foreseeable future - and jobs for graduates - our M.P. should acquaint himself with current methods of assessing schoolchildren and school-leavers, what their purpose is, how fit for purpose the assessments are and how fairly and efficiently they are carried out - with a view to either preservingthe status quo or agitating for reform. Congratulatory messages may keep your name before the public, but they butter no parsnips.
