In the past the government was prepared to throw tax payers money when the conditions were good and there was money in plentiful. Times have changed and the UK is in recession and the present government will have to borrow heavily (and pay interest) to be able to meets its commitments. People should be able to fend for themselves with the help of their parents or relatives rather than rely on the government for free handouts which encourages perpatual unemployment situation.
